Paimpol

Around Paimpol (Côtes d’Armor coast)

If you are on holiday near Paimpol, the following selection will provide you with varied walks in the area.

N.B. The coastal path GR34 is good anywhere, particularly around Plouha and the Trieux estuary.

1. From Palus Plage (lovely beach) walk up the coast to Le Pommier (for a 8.5km circuit) and return inland via Kerjean, Kerouziel and Kerraoult – yellow balisage, or on to Plage Bonaparte (for an 18km circuit) again returning by the inland route.

2. The Trieux estuary is a good quiet walking option. Judy Smith’s book Walking Brittany has an excellent walk of 12kms in the woods here. Some ups and downs, but good views, including Château Roche Jagu, which is well worth a visit.

3. The Circuit de Vau Madec (10km – 3 hours) starts at Binic. Park south of the port at La Banche and walk south along the coast path to le Petit Harve and then back inland via a ‘sentier de decouverte’ (footpath of discovery).

4. Le Sentier Botanique du Jaudy (10kms), which has information boards on plants, etc with English summary, starts from the parking at the lake at Kermoroc’h (10km north of Guingamp). Follow the yellow balisage.

5. For urban walking, stroll around the exceptional town of Tréguier: the cathedral is famous and from there continue into the Bois de Poète, where the Breton writer Anatole le Braz is buried, and enjoy some fine scenery along the river Jaudy.

6. On the north coast, the Sillon de Talbert, a 3km geological wonder of a sand and pebble spit, makes an interesting walk (outside the nesting season as it is a haven for seabirds).
